A group of rescuers are rushing against time to locate and save a man who was believed to have fallen from the Penang Bridge.
According to China Press, the incident occurred today at around 12pm at the 2.2 km mark of the Penang Bridge heading from Perai towards the island.
The man was identified as 34-year-old Chiam Wei Ping, whose last known address was in Bukit Mertajam.

According to a statement from the Penang Fire and Rescue Department, a report was made regarding the incident at 12.15pm, prompting the Perai Fire Station to dispatch eight personnel, including a commander, to the scene which was located about 7km away.
When they arrived, members of the public informed them that the man was believed to have jumped into the sea.
However, his Toyota Altis sedan was found parked along the bridge and had his personal identification documents, wallet, and mobile phone left inside.

A pair of slippers was also left neatly on the bridge.
A search and rescue operations has since been launched, with divers also deployed to search for the man underwater.
