On Jan 29, cops from the Ranau Police headquarters set up a tent in an oil palm plantation located in Kampung Paus to ensure students have access to a comfortable space for online learning.
Due to poor Internet connection in the village, students were not able to attend online classes at their own homes, forcing them to study in the oil palm plantation under the scorching sun.
Kampung Paus is approximately 70 km from Ranau, where most villages do not have Internet access. This has made it difficult for students to attend online classes. Some have even climbed up hills to search for stable mobile signal.
A team of police led by District Police chief Dept Supt Sammy Newton have taken the initiative to help the students by setting up a tent complete with tables and chairs. They also provided face masks, hand sanitizers and food too.
According to The Star, Newton said the police will also patrol the area to ensure the safety of students during their online classes.
Upon seeing their kind deeds, netizens praised the police for showing immense care for the community.
