Recently, a young female dentist Koh Yun Shan posted an Instagram story regarding her experience of getting the Pfizer vaccine’s injection. She then received overwhelming questions from her followers. Therefore, she took to social media to share her personal experience and reply to some of the common questions to clear the netizens’ doubt.
She emphasized that the situation everyone faces depends very much on their health condition.
Therefore, those who are interested are advised to inquire about their personal doctor for further information.
Here are some common answers she has given out:
1. Is it painful?
The pain you’ll get is very much like any other injection.
2. Will you get a fever?
One day after the injection, she has no fever. However, she updated 30 hours after the vaccine injection saying that she had a slight fever of 37.9 degrees Celcius and shivers. However, she added that she is not worried because this is a pervasive side effect. A few hours after that, her fever became worse, and it caused her a bad headache, so she took Panadol, and the fever went off.
3. Is there any side effect?
Well, besides those mentioned above, her arms and joints are sore. She can hardly raise and feel the energy of her hand. At night, she can barely sleep because of the dizziness and the pain from her hand if she accidentally pressed on it. After one day, the soreness gets worse, and a slight headache strikes in. However, she finds Panadol can help reduce lots of pain.
Here, she added an official statistics about side effects of Pfizer:
4. Will it cause any allergy? Rashes? Blister?
Dr Koh did not get any of these. Still, she did mention that she has not been allergic to any medicine so far. Hence, she advises everyone to make sure that they are not allergic to any vaccine component.
5. How much does it cost?
She can’t tell because she is currently studying in the UK now, and it is free for her as she is under the protection of the students’ health insurance.
6. Why did she get a chance for the vaccine injection this quick and where to get it?
Because she is studying in the UK and the UK government is giving everyone in the country an injection by stage. She is lucky enough to be the first batch because she works as a dentist in the hospital and needs to see patients every week. It is to protect them and the patients as well.
7. What are the precautions before the injections?
Read the commentary. There is still a small group of people who are not recommended for the vaccine or needs further advise from doctors:
- Those with severe allergic reactions. In other words, those who get responses like rashes, breathing difficulties, swollen face or tongue, or even shock after eating unknown food or medicine
- Having a fever
- Illness related to the immune system, such as HIV etc
- Below 16-year-old
- Pregnant or feeding breast milk
- Preparing for pregnancy within two months
She added that being in the above situation does not mean you cannot take the vaccine. Just consult your doctor about it if you are interested.
8. Does it mean I will never get Covid-19 after taking the vaccine?
Of course NOT! Every vaccine has it’s risk and small exception, so do Covid-19 vaccines. The research found that the Covid-19 vaccine’s protection rate is 94-95%. You’ll never know if you will end up being the minority, so everyone will still need to follow the SOPs after the injection.
9. How many injections are required?
Tentatively twice. The first injection gives 52% protection and a second injection after 21 days increases the prevention to 95%, seven days after it.
She added in the end that this is only as of 8th of January, she will be updating her situation from time to time and you can follow her posts here:
