Property Agents In M’sia Are Now Required To Have SPM Cert, Pass An Online Assessment & More

Aspiring Real Estate Negotiators (REN) in Malaysia will now need to meet stricter qualifications and complete a new certification process as part of efforts to enhance professionalism within the property industry.

The Board of Valuers, Appraisers, Estate Agents, and Property Managers has introduced new requirements that officially take effect on 1st October 2024.

New Certification Requirements

Under these new guidelines, individuals seeking certification as a Real Estate Negotiator must meet the following criteria:

1. Complete the Negotiators Certification Course (NCC) and pass the NCC Online Assessment. Certificates will only be issued to those who successfully pass the assessment.
2. Hold a minimum academic qualification of SPM or equivalent. Candidates must possess qualifications at this level or higher.
3. Provide proof of non-bankruptcy. Candidates must show current documentation proving that they are not bankrupt.

NCC Online Assessment Guidelines

The online assessment, a crucial part of the certification process, will be conducted at the end of NCC Day 2. Candidates must adhere to the following guidelines during the assessment:

• No screenshots are allowed during the exam.
• Ensure that both name and identification card number are accurately entered into the assessment system.
• Candidates are required to place their identification card on the table, as the invigilator will verify their identity during the test.
• While the test is open book, the use of Google or discussions with others is strictly prohibited.

Participants will face 20 questions in total, which must be completed within 20 minutes. Each participant will receive a unique set of questions. The passing score for the assessment is 50%.

If a participant fails the exam, they will be notified immediately by the system and will be allowed to retake the test once. If the retake is also unsuccessful, arrangements must be made for a re-assessment on another date.

Certificates will only be issued upon successfully passing the online assessment.Those who choose not to take the online assessment will not receive their NCC certificates.

Candidates can opt to take the assessment in either English or Bahasa Malaysia.
