The student AI lewd images scandal that recently rocked Foon Yew High School Kulai, has taken a new turn. The school’s principal, Gan Chuang Chee, has officially stepped down from his position.
According to China Press, the school board confirmed in a statement around 3.58pm yesterday (18 April) that Gan submitted his resignation on 12 April.
The board stated that it had accepted his resignation out of respect for his personal decision after a thorough discussion during a board meeting held the day before.

The board also announced that a five-member independent panel has been set up to handle the ongoing investigation related to the scandal.
The school will ensure a smooth leadership transition at the Kulai campus.
Operations will continue as usual, and we are committed to maintaining a safe and positive learning environment for students and staff,” the statement added.
#MeToo Movement
The controversy began on 8 April, when it was reported that a male student had allegedly stolen photos of female classmates and used AI technology to generate explicit images and videos, which were then sold online.

The incident triggered a ripple effect, as former students began sharing their own experiences under a growing #MeToo movement within the school.
Some claimed teachers bullied them, while others said they had witnessed inappropriate behaviour by school staff.
In response, the board issued another statement on 15 April, promising to implement reforms, including forming the independent panel, establishing a whistleblower mechanism, and boosting digital literacy and legal awareness efforts on campus.
Just took over
44-year-old Gan was appointed principal of the Kulai branch in January this year, taking over from former principal Huang Hui Zhu, who retired at the end of 2024.

He holds a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, and has been with Foon Yew High School since 2007.
Over the years, he served as Director of the Audiovisual Education Centre, Co-curricular Activities Director, and Vice Principal before stepping into the top role.
