An Air China flight from Hangzhou to Incheon was forced to make an emergency landing in Shanghai after a power bank exploded in the overhead cabin compartment and triggered a small fire mid flight.
The incident took place on flight CA139, which was operated using an Airbus A321 aircraft on Saturday.
Reported by Buletin TV3, the fire started after a passenger’s power bank exploded while it was stored inside their bag in the overhead luggage compartment.

Cabin crew quickly grabbed fire extinguishers and managed to put out the flames before the situation escalated.
The pilot then decided to divert the plane to Shanghai Pudong International Airport as a safety precaution.
The aircraft later landed safely in Shanghai and no injuries were reported among passengers or crew members.
A video that was uploaded on Facebook by Army Military Force shows smoke filling the cabin after the explosion, while passengers appear shocked by the incident.
