Political Commentator Kuan Yau Hew Claims Super Ring’s Smaller Packs Were Sold Out After Verdict

Interesting timing for Super Ring to be sold out.
A Facebook post by political commentator Kuan Yau Hew has drawn widespread attention online after he shared photos of Super Ring snacks and spoke of “celebrating after the verdict”, just hours after Najib Razak was found guilty in court.

The post showed Kuan standing in a supermarket aisle surrounded by stacks of Super Ring snack packs.

In the caption, written in Chinese: ““店员告诉我,小包的 Super Ring 已经卖完了,只剩下大包。我一口气买了五包,今晚判决后庆祝,” , he said that the smaller packs had sold out, leaving only larger ones, prompting him to buy several packs. He added that they would be for “celebration” after the verdict.

Najib was not mentioned by name in the original post, and no direct reference was made to the former prime minister in the caption.

Why the post quickly caught attention

Despite the lack of an explicit mention, the timing of the post led many netizens to read it as symbolic.

Super Ring has long been used in Malaysian online discourse as a form of political shorthand, frequently appearing in memes and satire linked to Najib.

As a result, its appearance in a post published shortly after the guilty verdict stood out to many readers.

Comments on the post quickly reflected this interpretation, with users joking about buying large quantities of the snack while others openly discussed the court decision and what it meant going forward.

Follow-up comments added context

While the original post remained symbolic in nature, Kuan later engaged with commenters in the same thread.

In his replies, he discussed the conviction directly, commenting on the appeal process and stating that the individual involved remained in prison and could not return home while pursuing an appeal. He also said that a DNAA would not be granted.

These responses reinforced many netizens’ belief that the earlier post was linked to the court ruling, even though no names were explicitly stated in the caption.

Najib did not post or respond

It is worth noting that Najib himself did not post anything related to the Super Ring imagery, nor did he respond to the post.

The reactions stemmed entirely from Kuan’s post and the interpretations made by netizens online.
