Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar has confirmed that the suspect involved in the fatal stabbing of a schoolmate at a Bandar Utama school earlier this week has learning difficulties.
According to Harian Metro, he said it would be unfair for the police to comment on the boy’s mental state, as that assessment falls under the jurisdiction of psychiatric experts.

We need to refer to the relevant specialists. Physically, he appears to be fine. That’s all I can say for now,” he said.
Shazeli added that the suspect had been attending counselling sessions, but clarified that these sessions were meant to help him improve his learning methods, not to treat any mental health issues.
School aware of learning issues
Responding to claims that the school failed to take action despite being aware of the suspect’s behavioural problems, Shazeli explained that the school was aware of his learning difficulties, but those issues were not directly linked to the fatal incident.
“The school did know (that the suspect had issues), but they were not related to this particular incident,” he said.
He added that the suspect has been cooperative and is assisting police with the ongoing investigation.

The tragic incident took place at SMK Bandar Utama Damansara (4) around 9.30am on Tuesday (Oct 15), when a student was stabbed multiple times by a male schoolmate.
Police recovered two sharp weapons believed to have been used in the attack.
Meanwhile, Petaling Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat said the motive is still under investigation but clarified that there were no elements of bullying involved.
