A 39-year-old woman has been arrested in Rawang, Selangor, for allegedly spreading a false claim that Form 1 student Zara Qairina Mahathir was put into a washing machine before her death.

Case probed under Sedition Act and Communications and Multimedia Act

Federal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar said the case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

15 investigation papers opened over false reports

He said police have opened 15 investigation papers following the death of Zara, who studied at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama (SMKA) Tun Datu Mustapha Limauan in Sabah.

According to Harian Metro, these investigations are related to the spread of false information, including the washing machine claim.

Authorities warn public against spreading unverified information

Several false reports have been circulating on social media. False and unverified information can disrupt public order and interfere with the investigation process,” he said at a press conference in Bukit Aman today.
