A video showing white smoke billowing from the front section of an aircraft at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) sparked concern and speculation of an emergency situation this morning.
However, authorities have since confirmed that the incident was caused by a fault in the aircraft’s auxiliary power unit (APU) — and no emergency had occurred.
Prompting concerns about the aircraft’s safety
The incident took place around 9:50am at KLIA Terminal 1, where eyewitnesses spotted the unusual smoke and captured the scene on video.
The footage quickly made its rounds online, prompting questions about the safety of the aircraft and airport operations.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the white smoke was the result of an APU malfunction, and no other issues or irregularities were found during the post-incident checks.
Technicians from the airline were dispatched to carry out the necessary maintenance.
Didn’t cause any airport disruption
According to Sin Chew Daily, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar confirmed that while the viral video was brought to their attention, no emergency call or formal report was made to the fire department.
The Airport Fire and Rescue Service (AFRS) reached out to verify the situation and found no emergency incident at the scene.
As of press time, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) has yet to release an official statement regarding the matter.
Despite the initial panic, the incident was contained quickly, with airport operations continuing as usual.
