Traffic signboards are meant to give clear instructions to drivers on where to go to avoid creating congestions or accidents. However, sometimes that message can get lost in translation (or illustration).
This was the unfortunate case in Penang, where a giant signboard became a laughingstock no thanks to its drawing which resembled the male genitalia.
A ‘different’ kind of traffic diversion
In a photo that has been making waves on social media, it showed a signboard which featured a drawing meant to alert motorists of the Gurney Drive traffic diversion plans.

Unfortunately, the message was anything but that as netizens wasted no time making jokes out of the questionable illustration.

Signboard taken down
When reporters from China Press went to the location, they saw that the signboard had already been taken down.
When contacted, Pulau Tikus assemblyperson Joshua Woo acknowledged the suggestive illustration but claimed that it helped the public be more aware of traffic diversion measures after the photo went viral.

Woo added that the developer will redesign the signboard to ensure information is conveyed more clearly and to avoid any misunderstandings.
However, he didn’t reveal when the new signboard will be erected.
