Ever wondered how much someone would pay for a unique car plate number? Well, the recent ANU plate series in Perak has revealed just how far people are willing to go for exclusivity,
The vehicle registration number ‘ANU 1’ turned heads when it was sold for an eye-watering RM269,000 during a five-day bidding session held from 19 to 23 December.
Organised by the Perak Road Transport Department (JPJ), the session saw 1,768 bidders join the race, generating a total of RM2.37 million in revenue.

According to Perak JPJ Director, Mohammad Yusoff Abustan, out of the 10,000 available ANU numbers, 1,768 were successfully bid on, resulting in 3,794 numbers being sold.
However, the ANU series wasn’t enough to dethrone the AMG series, which remains the top earner in Perak.
“The AMG plate series still holds the highest revenue for the state, thanks to its popularity among Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts,” Yusoff shared during a press conference at the New Year’s Eve Operation in Meru Raya, reported Berita Harian.
The bidding process was conducted entirely online through the JPJeBid platform, showing how technology is making even something as niche as number plate auctions more accessible and exciting.
