A woman in Penang who was driving along Jalan Macalister yesterday afternoon (Aug 13) suddenly lost consciousness and crashed into two parked motorcycles.
Despite the public’s attempt to resuscitate her, their efforts sadly proved to be in vain as she later died at the Penang General Hospital.
Performed CPR on her
According to China Press, the incident took place at around 2.15pm outside Yummy Cottage restaurant, where 36-year-old Dai Wanting (transliteration) reportedly passed out and crashed her car into two motorcycles parked outside the restaurant.
When members of the public saw that she was unconscious inside the car, they quickly smashed one of the car’s rear windows to unlock the door on the driver’s side and perform CPR on Dai.
News of the incident soon reached the ears of Dai’s husband, who rushed over from his workplace at Lebuh Presgrave and continued to perform CPR on Dai while telling her to “wake up” as their children were waiting for her.
Paramedics later arrived and rushed Dai to the hospital for emergency treatment. Unfortunately, she didn’t survive.
When interviewed at the hospital, Dai’s husband said his wife never mentioned being unwell or in pain, adding that he didn’t understand what caused her to pass away so suddenly.
Heart attack believed to be the cause
Timur Laut police chief Abdul Rozak Muhammad later said police believe Dai had a heart attack during the crash, reported FMT.
He added a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
