A Malay man was injured after parts of a shop’s awning suddenly collapsed while he was waiting on his motorcycle for his wife to buy food in Penang.
According to Sin Chew Daily, the incident occurred at about 11.30am on yesterday (Dec 29) along Jalan Gurdwara in front of a nasi kandar eatery.
Waited for wife to tabao food
The victim, believed to be in his 40s, was sitting on his motorcycle along the pedestrian walkway outside the restaurant.
According to eyewitnesses, the man was waiting for his wife to pack takeaway food from the stall when the horizontal beam and roof tiles from the shop’s awning suddenly gave way.
The falling debris then struck the man, causing injuries to his neck and left arm.

He reportedly fell to the ground in pain, prompting members of the public to rush to his aid.
Sent to Penang General Hospital
An ambulance was immediately called, and the injured man was later transported to Penang General Hospital for further treatment.
His wife, who was in the middle of buying food at the time, seemed anxious as she watched the situation unfold.

Staff from the eatery said they were unsure how old the building was and could not confirm whether the structure had deteriorated over time.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the cause of the incident.
