The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has won praise from Malaysians after launching an operation to help residents display the Jalur Gemilang properly during the national month.

In a Facebook post, MBPP shared that its enforcement team carried out Ops Negaraku to ensure the national flag continues to fly proudly across George Town and nearby areas.
Officers were seen replacing old and torn flags with new ones, fixing flags that were upside down due to strong winds, and reminding premises owners about treating the flag with respect.

The council stressed that the Jalur Gemilang is not just a piece of cloth, but a unifying symbol for Malaysians that should be flown with pride.
Encouraging patriotism among residents
MBPP also urged all residents to participate in showing their love for Malaysia by putting up the national flag at their homes and business premises.
The post encouraged people not to worry about perfection, but to display the flag sincerely as a sign of patriotism.
Let us celebrate the national month with fresh and beautiful Jalur Gemilang flying across every corner of Penang,” the post read.

Netizens praise MBPP’s effort
The Facebook post has gained over 13,000 likes and 735,000 views at press time, with many praising MBPP’s approach.
One user wrote: ‘This is the right way — showing good manners, wisdom, dignity, respect, morality, and integrity.’
Another commented, ‘Hope this is an eye-opening for certain people on how flying a flag properly and correctly should never be taken lightly.’

‘This is great… it’s more noble to replace the flag and remind people directly than to make a viral video. Politicians have no real ideas.’

Others added, ‘Lead by example. Action with silence is the strongest impact,‘ and ‘This is the right way. Educating is better than punishing.’
