The hawker behind the famed char koay teow stall in Penang gave his wife and other hawkers a huge fright when he suddenly began to vomit blood while at work.
He was rushed to the hospital and was found to be suffering from gastric bleeding.
Vomited blood at stall
According to China Press, the incident took place at noon today when 71-year-old Chen Muquan (transliteration) was manning his char koay teow stall at Lebuh Cecil.
While he preparing a customer’s order, he suddenly began vomiting a copious amount of blood, staining both his shirt and the floor.
Miraculously, Chen didn’t lose consciousness and was still able to maintain a clear mind.
Rushed to the hospital
The sight alarmed Chen’s wife and other hawkers, who quickly made him sit down on a chair and cleaned the area up with tissue papers.
An ambulance later turned up at the scene and took Chen to the Penang General Hospital.
Several hawkers told China Press that Chen had previously undergone heart surgery and experienced sudden discomfort while cooking in the past.
Hospital checks later confirmed that he was suffering from gastric bleeding.
