Being overweight has become an increasing issue in Malaysia, with many individuals facing serious health problems and here’s another case that has raised concern among netizens.
Man weighing 160kg is too heavy for ambulance
This Sunday morning (6th July) in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan, emergency responders found themselves facing an unusual challenge.
A 36‑year‑old patient, weighing over 160 kg, could not be accommodated by the standard hospital ambulance.

This prompted the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) to step in. They used a sturdy lorry for the transfer instead.
Ambulance limitations spark swift response
According to Sinar Harian, around 1 am, Pasir Puteh District APM Captain Nik Mohd Nor Nik Mat received an urgent call from Tengku Anis Hospital. The ambulance’s stretcher and cabin simply couldn’t handle the patient’s weight.
We immediately deployed five personnel, including one officer, to the location and used a lorry to ensure the patient could be transferred safely and efficiently.
When questioned, Captain Nik explained that the decision was purely logistical, aimed to maintain safety and speed during the transfer to Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital (HRPZ II) in Kota Bharu.
Teamwork ensured a smooth transfer
The operation involved close coordination between APM members and hospital staff. According to Captain Nik, this joint effort exemplified APM’s dedication to public safety.

The swift action and professionalism of the personnel demonstrated APM’s commitment to providing the best service to the community, especially in emergency situations.
