An e-hailing passenger recently shared a surprising ride experience after discovering that the driver might be far wealthier than expected.
In a Threads post that has since caught netizens’ attention, the passenger recounted taking a Grab ride in a car that still had plastic wrapping on parts of the interior, suggesting that the vehicle had just been newly purchased.
RM200k account balance
During the trip, the passenger chose to pay via QR using Maybank.
However, when the driver opened his MAE app in front of the passenger to scan the code, the passenger noticed something unexpected, the account balance displayed was close to RM200,000.

I was shocked when I saw the balance. The car was new, and he had almost RM200k in his Maybank account.”
This led the passenger to speculate that the driver might not be an ordinary e-hailing driver, but someone who possibly owns a business and drives out of boredom or to pass the time.
Netizens’ comments
The post sparked amused reactions from netizens, commenting that appearances can be deceiving and that not all e-hailing drivers are on the road purely out of financial necessity.
‘Maybe he’s a Grab CEO. He wants to see customer behaviour or customer feedback.’

‘He’s probably a retiree. Does e-hailing because there’s no one at home. Better than just staying idle.’
