As we all know, Malaysia still grapples with various issues which need resolution if aim to stride forward to progress.
This PAS MP on the other hand thought that this was the most debilitating problem in the Malaysian society today.
Polygamy As A Solution For Women Marrying Late
Just recently, the Kubang Kerian MP Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man had proposed a solution of sorts for Malaysian women marrying late in the Budget 2024 committee stage debate at Dewan Rakyat.
His solution was none other than, polygamy.
He explained that there are nearly 8.4 million unmarried Malaysian women, who can consider entering into a polygamous relationship. Don’t be fooled, the polygamy he’s referring to is a man marrying four women and not the other way around.
“This is not the ultimate solution for this problem but this (polygamy) would give them a ‘way out’,” he said.
He highlighted that the word polygamy has become a sensitive issue and merely mentioning the word now feels akin to committing a crime in our nation.
The Ministry (of Women, Children and Community Development) ought to be rational with this and provide moral support to those who meet the criteria for a legitimate polygamous relationship
Minister Hannah Yeoh’s Reply And Netizens’ Reaction
Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, shared the clip of this suggestion on her X page and with a caption emphasising to the MP, that marrying late is not an issue that requires a solution.
“What is the use of marriage if you end up being neglected? A right match would come without regard for time,” she said in her caption.
The netizens were equally perturbed by his proposed ‘solution,’ considering it a matter they don’t perceive as grave enough to warrant discussion in parliament.
‘Polygamy. Marrying Late. That’s a personal issue for each person. Why does it have to be debated in parliament? Can’t our MPs focus on more crucial topics?
