HEBEI – Recently, in Baoding, Hebei Province, some netizens found that an egg pancake stall owner, Mr Bai looked like Jay Chou. The stall owner went viral on Chinese social media after someone uploaded a picture of him to the Internet. Many people went to the stall to have a picture with him. However, Mr Bai does not feel anything unique or superior for his sudden fame.
In an interview with the media, Mr Bai said he doesn’t think they look alike. He is also not interested in being an influencer. His expectation is only selling more Roti Telur every day.
After being famous, his business has improved. During the interview, he made fun of himself saying: “I’m Roti Lun Chou （周饼伦，similar to Jay Chou’s Chinese name 周杰伦）. Today I’ll show you how to make a seven-mile fragrant Roti. (Referring to Jay Chou’s song 七里香)” The man said that his family rely on this stall for a living.
He sets up the booth at 7 a.m. every morning and closes the stall at 2:00 p.m. Recently, more visitors and Roti buyers visit the stall every day compared to the past.
Many diners from other places visit the booth because of this news. Their income was about 200 CNY per day before, but now it is about 300 CNY, which is equivalent to one third more of their income back.
Mr Bai is very realistic. The reporter asked him if he had any plans after being famous, but Mr Bai said no. He also responded that he had no talent other than making good Roti.
Mr Bai feels satisfied as long as his customers are happy with the food. He said: “It is more appropriate to do what you can. We should never overestimate our abilities.”
In fact, the response of the stall owner is an authentic portrayal of most ordinary people. It is important to be down to earth and only do what we can.

Ironically, Jay Chou had a love song 《等你下课》with the first person point of view, saying that he learned how to make Taiwanese egg pancake (蛋饼) which is quite similar to what Mr Bai is selling.

Some netizens made fun of Jay Chou’s song name upon this incident by changing them to “Give me the time of a roti《给我一个饼的时间》, The aroma of seven roti《七饼香》, Where is the promised roti 《说好的灌饼呢》, Wait for the set up of your roti stall《等你出摊》……”.
