According to News China, Chen Wangqiang, a chief physician from Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, shared a case study involving 27-year-old Xiao Lin.

Sleep deprivation, smoking, alcohol consumption

Due to long-term sleep deprivation, smoking, and frequent alcohol consumption, his sperm concentration dropped to 3 million per milliliter, with 0% Grade A motility and a 98% abnormality rate, severely impairing his fertility.

Chen explained that poor lifestyle habits, including late-night screen exposure, excessive alcohol intake, and prolonged sitting, are key factors contributing to this decline.

After adopting a healthier lifestyle and undergoing treatment, Xiao Lin’s sperm concentration improved to 14 million per milliliter, eventually allowing him to father a child.

The fertility decline is no longer limited to men in their 30s and 40s but is increasingly observed in newlyweds aged 25 to 28.

Fertility preservation is crucial

Medical experts attribute this to modern lifestyle patterns, such as digital device overuse, poor sleep habits, and sedentary routines that raise scrotal temperature and damage sperm DNA.

To address this issue, Chen advises young men to prioritize sleep, limit nighttime screen exposure, and engage in physical activity every 45 minutes to promote better pelvic circulation.

He emphasized that fertility preservation requires lifelong attention, as early reproductive decline could have significant implications for future family planning and national population quality.
