Did you witness this morning’s Merdeka Parade?
More than 100,000 people thronged Dataran Putrajaya today to celebrate Malaysia’s 68th National Day, according to New Straits Times.
This year’s parade saw 14,062 participants, featuring a grand showcase of marching bands, decorated vehicles, and contingents representing key sectors such as the economy, telecommunications, creative industries, sports, and national security.

Crowds Camped Overnight
Many Malaysians, learning from past years’ traffic woes and the challenge of finding good viewing spots, decided to camp overnight at Dataran Putrajaya.
Social media posts showed families bringing along foldable chairs, snacks, and picnic mats, creating an atmosphere akin to a carnival.

One family, seated on the ground with their children waving flags excitedly, shared with WeirdKaya:
We came early so we wouldn’t miss the best view!”
Festive Atmosphere
Speaking to WeirdKaya, some attendees revealed they had arrived as early as 8pm the night before, while others joined after celebrating in Kuala Lumpur.
To support the massive turnout, facilities such as portable toilets, a Milo truck, and other amenities were made available, ensuring the crowd could enjoy the festivities comfortably while awaiting the parade.

By dawn, the square and surrounding areas were already packed with people. The air was filled with chants, cheers, and applause as the parade unfolded — a true reflection of a nationwide celebration.
