With only RM20 left in her husband’s wallet and a week to go before the next paycheck, a mother took to social media to ask a simple but urgent question: how does a family of four stretch their meals until the end of the month?
According to Sin Chew Daily, a netizen shared on Facebook that her family was facing financial strain and needed to plan their meals carefully to survive the coming week.
Hoping to find low-cost but filling meal
She explained that she had to prepare food for her husband and their two children on an extremely tight budget. Hoping to find low-cost but filling meal options, she turned to the public for suggestions.
“Payday is still one week away, and my husband’s salary is down to RM20. Please recommend affordable meal ideas suitable for a family of four,” she wrote.

Her post soon gathered hundreds of comments, with netizens offering practical tips on budget-friendly meals.
Some recommended simple dishes such as rice with fried eggs, vegetable soup with sambal belacan, basic fried noodles, plain porridge, sardines cooked with onions, soy sauce eggs, and stir-fried cabbage.
Netizens lend help
One netizen commented, ‘As long as you plan your menu well, RM20 can still get you through. Focus on eggs and vegetables first. That should be enough to fill everyone.’
Others advised her to buy essentials from small grocery shops instead of supermarkets, as prices are often cheaper.
Some suggested cooking larger portions that could last for two days to reduce daily expenses.
Beyond meal suggestions, several netizens also offered direct help. Some asked the woman to message them privately if she needed assistance.
