There’s a unique sting in being turned away.
Not because you were rude or late, but simply because you weren’t valuable enough.
That’s exactly what one Malaysian man experienced when he pulled into a car wash in Taman Abad, Johor Bahru (JB), hoping to get his car cleaned.
Instead of service, he was told flatly by a worker, “Sorry boss, Singaporean car only.”
Confused, the man reminded the staffer, “This is Malaysia, not Singapore!” but was simply told to “ask the boss.”
What happened next made things even clearer
Moments later, the boss arrived. While his tone was apologetic, the message remained unchanged.
“Today, all the Singapore cars already came into Malaysia and booked the whole day.”
Trying to clarify further, the man asked why the worker said it was exclusively for Singaporean cars.
The boss explained that most of their customers were from Singapore and ended the conversation with another short apology.
Feeling slighted in his own country, the man later shared his experience on Threads and closed his post with a bitter remark:
“Malaysiaku… Sekiannn.”
‘Of course they prefer Singapore dollars’
The post quickly gained traction. Both Malaysians and Singaporeans expressed their anger, disappointment, and disbelief over the incident.
“That’s horrible! I think most Singaporeans aren’t even aware this happens. I’m Singaporean and I’m shocked. This feels like betraying your own people.”
Many locals pointed to a growing pattern in JB, where businesses increasingly cater to Singaporeans at the expense of fellow Malaysians.
“JB is full of greedy business owners who don’t even care about ringgit anymore.”
“You should see the rent prices targeting SG customers. It’s pathetic.”
“Of course they prefer Singapore dollars. That’s why they don’t mind ignoring us.”
