‘One Final Push’ – 54 Girls In Rawang Risk Losing The Only Home They Have Ever Known

Their only home is on the line.
For nearly three decades, two modest houses in Taman Hijau, Rawang have been more than brick, cement, and rented walls. They have been a safe haven.

A place where hundreds of children who lost family love found one another instead.

For decades, this Rawang welfare home has been a place of safety for children without family support. Established in 1998, Persatuan Kebajikan Sri Saradha Devi Illam Malaysia has cared for more than 500 orphaned and neglected children.

Today, 54 girls remain here. Now, the only home they know is on the line.

One of the two houses they live in is being put up for sale. The owner has decided to migrate overseas and has offered to sell the property to the welfare home for RM800,000. It is a fair price for the area. But time is short.

And for the girls here, this is not just another building. It is everything.

A house that holds their daily life

Inside this house is the only kitchen. It is where meals are cooked every day. It is where the baking classes happen. It is where the dormitories are. It is where the activity spaces and learning rooms sit. It is where laughter, lessons, and late night study sessions fill the air.

During an exclusive interview with WeirdKaya, the home’s Secretary Mrs Meena explained why losing this house would change everything.

We have 22 children currently pursuing a Diploma in Early Childhood Education. Fourteen others are taking Level 3 Certification in Early Childhood Education. Some are studying Diploma in Baking and Pastry. We also conduct classes in Silambam, Veenai, Mandarin, Yoga, and Bharatanatyam. All of this happens in the house that is now on sale,” she shared.

“The other house does not have a kitchen or space for these activities. That is why this house is crucial for the daily life of our children.”

No relocation plan, only one goal

When the team learned that the house would be sold, the hardest part was not the emotional blow. It was the reality of funding.

“We have invested so much into these two houses. We do not have relocation plans. That is why we launched a fundraising campaign. Our only goal now is to purchase this house,” said Mrs Meena.

The campaign began in December. Since then, public support has been overwhelming. As of today, they have successfully raised over RM663,000.

They are now on their final stretch.

Just one last push stands between these girls and the security of a permanent home.

Interestingly, the children only learned about the situation two weeks ago.

At first, we did not tell them. We did not want them to feel depressed or have their studies disrupted. But when they found out, they were quite sad. This is the only home they have ever known,” Mrs Meena said softly.

For children who once lost family, the thought of losing home again is a fear no child should carry.

A message to Malaysians

“To all Malaysians, thank you so much. Your support has been overwhelming. As of today, we have raised RM666,000. We believe that with more people knowing about our situation, we will be able to reach the remaining amount,” Mrs Meena said.

The deadline to secure the house is 31 January 2026. Until then, every ringgit counts.

Even RM10 can help keep the lights on, the kitchen running, and the dormitories filled with safety rather than uncertainty.

The last push

For most of us, home is something we return to without thinking. For these 54 girls, home is something they might lose if this final push does not happen in time.

They have studied here. Grown here. Healed here. Dreamed here.

Now, they are asking Malaysians for one thing.

Help them keep the only home they have ever known.
