OKU Malay E-hailing Driver Surprises Passengers With Angpaus So They Could Celebrate CNY Together

He wanted to share the festive spirit ahead of CNY.
What began as a routine e-hailing ride turned into an unexpected moment of kindness for a woman and her mother, after their driver surprised them with red packet envelopes ahead of Chinese New Year.

According to a social media post, her mother had booked a ride through the e-hailing app, which indicated that the assigned driver was an OKU (person with disabilities).

Handed them red packet as gift

The driver arrived at their apartment guard house in under five minutes, and the journey proceeded smoothly after the destination was confirmed.

The driver drove steadily throughout the trip while my mother and I chatted casually in the back seat. When we arrived, my mother prepared to pay the fare in cash, which she usually prefers.” She shared.

However, just as they were about to alight, the driver turned around and stopped them. He then handed them several red packet envelopes as a small gift.

Wanted to share the festive spirit

The driver, described as a Malay abang, reportedly said he knew Chinese New Year was approaching and wanted to share the festive spirit, despite not celebrating the occasion himself.

The passenger noted that although she and her mother frequently use e-hailing, this was the first time they had ever received a gift from a driver.

She described the gesture as simple but deeply touching, saying it left both of them feeling unexpectedly warm and appreciated.

The incident has since been shared online, with many praising the driver’s thoughtful act as a reminder that small gestures of kindness can make an ordinary day feel meaningful—especially when they come without expectation.
