‘Not My Business’ – Drunk Driver Who Knocked Down 18yo M’sian Teen Allegedly Didn’t Apologise

She did not appear on the funeral.

The Vietnamese drunk driver who allegedly drove under the influence and crashed into an 18-year-old, killing him on the spot was said to have refused to apologise.

However, the victim’s grieving family expressed outrage, not only over the incident but also over the driver’s alleged arrogant behaviour at the scene and the swift legal process that saw her released on bail within a day.

Allegedly no apology or remorse

The victim’s 24-year-old sister, Huilin, shared in an interview with China Press that she was the first to arrive at the accident site that night.

She confronted the driver, who could speak Mandarin, asking how she could have driven so recklessly and reminding her that a human life had been lost.

However, instead of showing remorse, the driver allegedly responded dismissively, saying, “Your brother’s life is your own business!”

She also refused to hand over her identification to the police, claiming that doing so would put her in serious trouble.

Huilin described the driver as being visibly intoxicated, seemingly disoriented, and at one point, sitting on the ground holding a child.

Many onlookers at the scene were reportedly furious at the driver’s unrepentant attitude and wanted to confront her physically, but police intervened to control the situation.

Father questions justice system following bail release

The victim’s father has also strongly condemned the legal handling of the case, questioning why the driver was detained for only one day before being released on bail.

My son was killed by a drunk driver, yet she was out in a day. Where is the justice in that?” he said tearfully.

He pointed out that authorities have consistently stated that drunk driving is a serious offence, but the swift bail approval in this case suggests otherwise.

If killing someone while drunk driving only results in a short detention, does this mean it is no longer considered a major crime?” he questioned.

Additionally, he expressed concerns about the driver being a foreigner, fearing she might flee before facing full legal consequences.

If she escapes, who will be held responsible? The police or her guarantor? Will the guarantor go to jail instead?”

The victim’s father confirmed that he has yet to appoint a lawyer, as his focus remains on completing his son’s funeral arrangements.

However, he intends to file a formal police report and pursue legal action against the driver to seek justice.
