‘Not Just Income’ – RON95 Subsidy Will Also Be Based On Cars & Houses You Own, Says Anwar

Take note.
Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that property ownership, luxury vehicles, and monthly income will be used as key factors in determining who qualifies for the RON95 petrol subsidy.

He said the assessment would rely on several databases, including income records from the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) and findings from the Household Income Survey (HIS) by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).

According to Anwar, this step aims to ensure that subsidies are directed only to those who truly need them.

He added that additional criteria would be reviewed before the final decision is made, which is expected to be announced by the end of September.

“This will create a more thorough system to target aid for those who truly qualify.

Other factors, including property ownership, luxury cars, and monthly earnings, will also be reviewed before the final decision is announced by the end of September,” he said in a written reply.

The written reply was issued in response to a question from Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin (PN-Larut), who asked about the timeline and mechanism of the RON95 rationalisation plan.

Anwar also assured that about 85% of Malaysians would not be affected by the policy, pointing out that only the wealthy and non-citizens would be excluded from the subsidy scheme.

He reiterated that the government remains committed to introducing targeted RON95 subsidies in the second half of 2025.
