Travelling abroad isn’t always a pleasant experience for everyone, and some would go to great lengths to describe how terrible it was.
Recently, a Taiwanese tourist sparked backlash online after openly criticising Malaysian food during her trip, even going as far as to say she wanted to return to Taiwan to eat food that “was edible for humans”.

‘I want food that humans eat!’
According to China Press, the tourist had been travelling with her husband across Malaysia since May 30, where she visited popular landmarks in Kuala Lumpur and Melaka, including the Petronas Twin Towers, National Monument, and Merdeka Square.
The couple even enjoyed a trishaw ride through Melaka’s historical streets.
However, just before flying back to Taipei on June 4, the tourist took to her Facebook profile to share her apparent relief at leaving Malaysia, alongside a selfie showing her rolling her eyes.
Finally going back to Taiwan. In this lifetime, I probably won’t come back to Malaysia again. I want to return to Taiwan to eat food that humans eat.”

Her bashing didn’t end there, with her writing in the comment thread that she found Malaysian food to be “scary”, complaining that the dishes looked confusing and overly salty.
The tourist also lashed out at popular tourist spots, claiming the monuments she visited were unrelatable.
Why do we need to see monuments from another country? I don’t even know who they people are in the monuments!”
Netizens defend local cuisine & culture
The tourist’s brash remarks quickly drew criticism from Malaysians, who felt that she lacked basic cultural sensitivity.
Following the backlash, the woman deleted her post on Threads and revised her Facebook caption to: “Having food that doesn’t suit your taste is truly a struggle. I love Taiwan.”
