The government has announced that free tolls during festive seasons will no longer be offered, starting this year.
This decision marks the end of a tradition many motorists have come to rely on during holidays.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi told NST that the cabinet has opted for a more targeted subsidy system, aligning with the government’s broader strategy of subsidy reform.
He confirmed that 2024 was the final year for free tolls, and no exemptions will be provided for the upcoming Chinese New Year or future celebrations.
According to the cabinet’s decision, there will be no more free tolls moving forward. Should there be any changes, an official announcement will be made,” Nanta reportedly said.
The minister also highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to adopt a targeted approach to subsidies, with further details to be disclosed soon.
