Isaac Chin, an air conditioner technician, shared a story on of him giving cleaning services at just RM1 for a disabled man on Facebook.
According to him, the uncle is said to be suffering from multiple illnesses and has to use crutches to move about. His house was also in great disrepair, with basins and buckets scattered all over due to a leaking roof.
“Upon further enquiry, I learned that he was over 50 years old and that he lives together with his sister in the house. He’s also fully dependent on his siblings to survive.”
Three years ago, the man called Isaac to repair his air conditioner, where the latter promptly fixed the broken compressor at a price of only RM1.
Fast forward to now, the same man called for Isaac’s help after complaining of intense heat in his room after the air conditioner broke down, causing him to be admitted to the hospital twice.
“Upon hearing this, my heart broke.”
This time around, the air conditioner was in a much worse shape than before. The remote control was no longer functional and its inner compartment was caked in layers of dust. Wanting to ensure that the man lived in a clean and comfortable environment, Isaac wasted no time in fixing the air conditioner.
When Isaac was done, the man asked how much it would cost, to which he replied, “RM1 is good for me.” This took the man by surprise as he was expecting the fee to be much higher with such extensive repairs. However, Isaac insisted on receiving only RM1 and the man became overwhelmed with emotion as he paid the fee and said “Thank you, Feng [Isaac]” repeatedly.
“You’re welcome. You have already paid me for the service. I have received your RM1.”
Isaac ended the post with a touching thought :
“I only earn from people who have the ability to earn money. I won’t do the same to those who are struggling to put food on the table. Even RM1 is more than enough for me to do all of this for you.”
