Namewee Remanded For Another 3 Days By Police

He will be remanded until Thursday (Nov 13).
Local rapper and songwriter Namewee had his remand period extended for another three days following an application by police at the Dang Wangi police headquarters (IPD).

This means that he will remain under police remand until Thursday (Nov 13) following the expiration of his previous six-day remand period came to an end today.

His lawyer confirmed the news when met by reporters outside the Dang Wangi IPD, adding the police requested an extension as the investigation is not yet complete.

“We hope they can wrap it up as soon as possible and release my client,” he said, adding that the extension was a normal procedure and wasn’t unusual, reported China Press.

Summary of case

Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh, popularly known as “Nurse Goddess”, was found dead at a hotel along Jalan Conlay in KL last month and police initially classified the case as sudden death (SDR).

However, it was reclassified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or a jail term of up to 40 years upon conviction.

Namewee was subsequently arrested and charged with drug usage and possession but was released on bail after pleading not guilty.

An arrest warrant was later issued after police were unable to track him down and arrest him for his alleged involvement in Hsieh’s death.

Namewee eventually turned up at the police station in Johor Bahru, denying claims that he was on the run and reiterated that he voluntarily turned himself to police.
