Malaysian singer and filmmaker Namewee has released a new demo track while being remanded by police for six days in connection with the death of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin, better known as Iris Hsieh.
He had been missing for nearly two days before turning himself in for questioning, prompting a national manhunt.
He later turned up late at night and reported to the police station to assist with investigations.
Old project gets a reboot
Just hours later, his new song‘Very Shuai (Demo)’ was released on music streaming platforms, catching many fans off guard.
‘Very Shuai’ is a song Namewee originally wrote 11 years ago for his former boy group, P-HIGH (屁孩). The track’s melody reminded some listeners of songs by the Little Tigers, a famous 90s boy band.

On the same day the video was uploaded, reports revealed that Namewee was at the scene of Iris Hsieh’s death. Authorities are also investigating suspected drug use at the location.
Earlier, Namewee had reunited P-HIGH for a new YouTube video titled ‘Major comeback or total fail? Boy band returns after 10 years — Namewee reveals the truth behind the past’ posted last Sunday (Nov 2).
Online reactions to music drop
The surprise release led to online speculation, with some joking that he wasn’t on the run, but was uploading a new song.
Others sarcastically commented: “He made sure to release the song before surrendering. Very committed.”
However, it also drew strong criticism, with many noting: “So it’s his own comeback that failed.”
