Local rapper and singer Namewee has brushed off claims that he was on the run by police after a national manhunt was launched in tracking him down to aid murder investigations into Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh’s death.
This comes after he posted an Instagram story and post clarifying the situation and affirming his commitment to bringing the truth to light.
‘I’ve never run away and never will’
In the Instagram story, Namewee showed himself standing outside a police station to prove that he had indeed gone there.

He then followed it up with a post, where he said he travelled from KL to Johor Bahru to meet the police as previously arranged.
He added that he will cooperate fully with the authorities so that closure may be given to to the public and Hsieh’s family.
Namewee also denied claims that he had fled from police, saying he had never done so in his past brushes with the law.
I will not flee. Previously, all seven times I was issued warrants, I voluntarily reported myself.”
This comes after police issued an arrest warrant and manhunt for Namewee after they were unable to locate his whereabouts.
What happened so far
Hsieh was found dead at a KL hotel last month and police initially classified the case as sudden death (SDR).

However, it was reclassified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or a jail term of up to 40 years upon conviction.
Namewee was subsequently arrested and charged with drug usage and possession but was released on bail after pleading not guilty.
Police said he tested positive for amphetamines, methamphetamine, ketamine, and THC during the arrest.
