Every family has one. Every highway sees one. And every viral video features one.
The Perodua Myvi may be Malaysia’s most beloved compact car, but last year it also earned a spot in the record books, leading accident stats nationwide.
Myvi takes the crown for most insurance claims filed
According to the Vehicle Theft and Accident Reduction Council (VTAREC), the Myvi topped the list of vehicles most frequently involved in road accidents in 2024, reported NST.

A total of 24,628 insurance claims were filed involving the iconic hatchback, making it the most accident-prone car in the country.
Other popular models weren’t far behind
Following closely were the Proton Saga with 16,159 claims and the Honda City with 13,388, solidifying their positions in the top three.
“This is not just a claim. It is based on solid statistics,” said VTAREC coordinator Mas Tina Abdul Hamid during the soft launch of the council’s 2025 public awareness campaign on vehicle theft and road accidents.

Motorcycles saw a similar pattern
While cars took the lion’s share of road incidents, motorcycles weren’t spared either.
The Yamaha 135LC emerged as the most accident-prone bike with nearly 3,000 cases, followed by the Yamaha Y15ZR with 2,154.
According to Mas Tina, these two models alone accounted for around 30% of total motorcycle accidents in 2024.
So how bad was the year overall?
Malaysia recorded a total of 266,716 road accidents last year. Out of this, cars were involved in 229,739 incidents, making them the biggest contributor.
Commercial vehicles followed with 21,828 cases, while motorcycles were involved in 15,149 accidents.
