Muhyiddin Says Bandar Utama Stabbing Proves That Current Govt Is A Total Failure

"It's a moral and collective failure of the entire government."
Ever since news of the tragic passing of a female student who was stabbed by a male schoolmate at Bandar Utama secondary school, many have wondered who was to be blamed for the incident.

For ex-prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin, he laid the blame solely on the current government under the helm of Anwar Ibrahim, saying it must bear responsibility for the tragedy.

‘Govt and MOE have failed’

In a statement posted on his official Facebook account, Muhyiddin expressed his sadness over the incident, saying it dealt a “severe blow to our national education system, which is meant to protect the future of our young generation”.

He added he and his party Perikatan Nasional (PN) “share in the sadness, anger, and disappointment over the failure of a system that is supposed to ensure the safety of our children” with all Malaysians.

Muhyiddin then turned his criticism towards Anwar and his administration, particularly the Ministry of Education (MOE).

This is not an isolated case — it is a clear sign that the education system and government have failed to function properly.

“MOE must take full responsibility and not just express sympathy. Far too many incidents of violence, bullying, and injury have occurred in schools without firm or systematic action.

“This is a government that often champions values of compassion, respect, and kindness, yet fails to guarantee even the most basic safety for children in schools,” he wrote.

Put forth 4 proposals

Muhyiddin then outlined four things the government must do immediately to prevent similar tragedies:

  • Establish an Independent Investigation Committee to identify the root causes and review long-standing weaknesses in school safety policies
  • Install CCTVs in critical areas, implement regular security patrols, and work directly with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM)
  • Conduct psychosocial screenings and early intervention programs for students who exhibit signs of stress, aggression, or potential for violence
  • Make safety and crisis management training mandatory for all teachers and school staff

He also urged MOE and government officials to personally go to the school themselves to prove they were committed in resolving the issue.

“Every loss of life in a school is a clear testament to policy failure, weak leadership, and institutional negligence.

“The failure to protect our children is not just a ministerial failure. It is a moral and collective failure of the entire government.”
