M’sians Work Together To Carry A House On Their Shoulders In Hulu Selangor

The real meaning of moving house.
We always hear about people moving house, but the residents of Desa Melor in Serendah, Selangor, took it literally.

On Sunday, with the help of many volunteers, they successfully moved an entire traditional Malay house after their second attempt.

The house owner, Jonid Ahmad, explained that their first attempt to move the house using manpower, or ‘carrying the house,’ failed due to incorrect techniques.

After seeking expert advice, the volunteers were able to execute the move successfully.

Jonid shared that he wanted to move the house, which is over 100 years old, because of the many cherished memories it holds.

Originally built in Muar, Johor, the house had previously been moved to Serendah and now needed to be relocated again to make way for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project.

To preserve the traditional Malay method, Jonid avoided using modern equipment, keeping the process true to the old ways.
