In conjunction with Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Malaysia, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) has issued an urgent travel advisory, warning of full road closures near Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on selected dates.
In a Facebook post published last night (April 13), MAHB announced that certain roads surrounding KLIA will be fully closed during designated time slots to ensure smooth passage for the VIP convoy.
Full road closures will be in effect on the following days and times:
- April 15 (Monday), 6:00PM – 7:00PM
- April 17 (Wednesday), 8:50AM – 9:50AM
Affected roads include:
- KLIA Avenue (Lebuh KLIA)
- ELITE Highway (North–South Expressway Central Link)
- Lingkaran Putrajaya
- Putrajaya–Dengkil Highway
- Persiaran Selatan
- Lebuh Gemilang
- Jalan P5
Travellers heading to or from KLIA during these hours are strongly encouraged to avoid these roads or opt for public transportation to prevent delays.

Public Transport Strongly Recommended
MAHB recommends that passengers use the KLIA Express from KL Sentral to KLIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, or the KLIA Transit from KL Sentral, Bandar Tasik Selatan, Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, or Salak Tinggi stations.
For those who must drive, MAHB has outlined an alternative route:
- Exit the ELITE Highway at the Simpang Sri Nilam Toll Plaza
- Proceed through Kota Warisan, Masjid Roundabout, Jalan KLIA 1, and finally reach Charterfield Roundabout to access the KLIA Terminal 1 Departure/Arrival halls and parking area
Important Note for Terminal 2
MAHB also highlighted that during the road closure hours, no vehicles will be allowed access to KLIA Terminal 2’s drop-off, pick-up, or parking zones.
Passengers headed to Terminal 2 are advised to:
- Take the KLIA Transit train from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2
- Similarly, those arriving at Terminal 2 and needing onward travel should take the train to Terminal 1 for further arrangements
Travellers are urged to plan ahead and allow for extra travel time to ensure smooth airport transfers during the VIP visit.
