In a move aimed at providing relief to motorists during the festive season, Minister of Works Alexander Nanta Linggi has declared toll-free travel on highways across the nation as part of the Chinese New Year festivities.
From 12:01 a.m. on February 8th – 11:59 p.m. on February 9th

Beginning from 12:01 a.m. on February 8th (Thursday) until 11:59 p.m. on February 9th (Friday), all classes of vehicles will be exempt from toll charges, reported FMT.
This announcement comes as a welcome gesture for travellers during one of the busiest periods of the year.
Important Toll Plazas not covered
However, it’s important to note that certain toll plazas, including the Sultan Iskandar Building Toll Plaza (Tambak Johor) and Tanjung Kupang (Linkedua Highway) in Johor, are not included in this toll exemption.
Linggi emphasized that this initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to prioritize the welfare of its citizens, particularly by easing the financial burden of travel expenses.
He stated, “The approach of providing toll exemption is in line with the government’s aspiration to prioritise the welfare of the people and always assist in alleviating the cost of living.”
Costs involved in toll-free initiative
This decision, while undoubtedly beneficial for travellers, does come with a financial implication.
The toll-free period is expected to incur costs totalling RM42.99 million, as confirmed by Linggi.
Expressing hope for the public’s cooperation, the Minister urged highway users to plan their journeys wisely to make the most of the toll-free period.
This announcement is likely to bring relief and joy to many travellers as they prepare to celebrate the Chinese New Year with their loved ones.
