August is a significant month for every Malaysian as we celebrate our Independence Day on the 31st.
In light of this, the Youth Wing of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) has recently launched a campaign in commemoration of Merdeka month, encouraging people to hang both the Malaysian flag and the PAS flag at their premises and homes.
Taking to their Facebook account, Pemuda PAS Malaysia shared a poster detailing the campaign.
In the caption, they stated that hanging the PAS flag next to our Jalur Gemilang is intended to ignite the spirit of patriotism and love for the country.
“In addition, we express our love for the genuine struggle with PAS to form a better Malaysia,” they wrote.
The poster further urged people to snap a photo of both the Jalur Gemilang and PAS flags being displayed and upload it to social media with the hashtag #MalaysiaSejahtera.
However, the campaign has not been well received by everyone.
Some Malaysians voiced their disapproval, mentioning PAS of causing conflict instead of promoting unity during this Independence month.
On X (formerly Twitter), a user by the handle @tjerealjoker voiced their thoughts on the campaign.
“There has never been a political party that made Independence Day a political campaign. This is the narrow-minded politics of PAS. Everything is politicised. Everything they do is intended to divide society,” the user wrote, sharing a screenshot of the news.

In the replies, many netizens echoed these sentiments, criticising PAS for the campaign.
“What foolishness are they trying to prove? This is the wrong way to celebrate Independence Day. They’ve lost their way,” one netizen commented.
Another added, “What nonsense… Independence has nothing to do with PAS… They’re so desperate, they’re using everything to their advantage…”
