Following the announcement of targeted subsidies for diesel and its imminent price hike, hundreds of diesel vehicle owners have rushed to the nearest petrol station to fill up their tanks before the new pricing came into effect on Monday (June 10).
While it’s common knowledge that pumping diesel into petrol-only cars is a recipe for disaster, there are some drivers who unwittingly forget about this and still make this disastrous mistake.
M’sians shocked to see man pump Myvi with diesel
In a photo shared on the Facebook page Meanwhile in Malaysia, it showed a man filling his Myvi with fuel at an undisclosed petrol station.

While it looked like any ordinary instance of refueling his vehicle, a closer look revealed that the man was actually pumping diesel into the car and not petrol.
Needless to say, the man’s decision to potentially ruin his Myvi’s engine for good left many baffled, including the OP who jokingly wrote the following caption:
Public Service Announcement: Black nozzles are for diesel and Myvi uses petrol. You can try but standby RM200 to pay a happy mechanic to come fix.
In the comment section, netizens wondered how the man could make such a mistake, given the fact that the diesel nozzle won’t be able to fit into the Myvi’s fuel filler.

One netizen gave a rather plausible theory as to how the man managed to fit the diesel nozzle into the Myvi by speculating that the man might have modified the car to engage in illegal activities or installed an auxiliary tank into it beforehand.

On a lighter note, some joked that the man simply wanted to maximise the car’s efficiency by pumping the most expensive fuel or show off that he could afford pumping diesel.

In light of public outcry over the hike in diesel prices, prime minister Anwar Ibrahim said that it was necessary to “save the country”:
