For Malaysians, petai, or also known as stink beans, are usually paired with sambal and prawns to make for a very delectable local dish. But have you ever thought of combining petai and bread together?
A foreign woman recently caused a stir on TikTok with a clip of her showing how to make an ‘Austalian-styled’ petai and avocado sandwich, much to the shock of Malaysians.

In a clip shared by @simplegreensoul, the woman simply known as Georgia and an advocate for plant-based meals, it began with her slicing the petai into half to check for worms inside, a move she admitted she didn’t know until recently.
After ensuring that the petai was completely free of worms, Georgia then proceeded to unveil the real reason for her using the petai — to make a smashed avocado and petai sandwich. Nope, your eyes aren’t reading this wrongly!
She first starts off by steaming the petai in a metal pot to make it softer and cutting them into smaller pieces. She then added half of an avocado, a dash of lime juice and chili into a bowl before mixing it all together.
After giving it a good mix, Georgia then spread the concoction over a slice of bread before topping it off with another slice and cutting it into half.
The verdict? Apparently it’s one of the best things Georgia’s ever tasted, according to her.
That is just an absolute flavour explosion. I don’t care what anyone says…petai and bread absolutely goes together,” she gushed in the clip.

Georgia’s clip has since garnered 1.1 million views at the time of writing along with horrified reactions from netizens, particularly Malaysians.

On the other hand, there were some who weren’t shy to share the weirdest recipes they had or were planning to make with petai.
