You might have more money than you know.
If you’ve ever lost track of an old bank account or forgotten about a paycheck, you might have some cash waiting for you.

Government steps up efforts

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim previously revealed this massive amount, and now the government is stepping up efforts to help Malaysians retrieve what’s rightfully theirs.

During a Dewan Rakyat session on 5 March, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan shared that the Accountant General’s Department had launched various initiatives, including setting up 158 booths and running awareness programmes nationwide last year.

These initiatives aim to inform Malaysians about their unclaimed funds and the claim process.

But first… what is Unclaimed Money?

According to Section 8 of the Unclaimed Money Act 370, unclaimed funds fall into three categories:

  • Category 1: Salaries, commissions, and bonuses unpaid for over one year.
  • Category 2: Bank accounts inactive for over seven years and transaction accounts inactive for over two years.
  • Category 3: Funds that remain unclaimed past the designated period must be transferred to the Registrar of Unclaimed Money.

Now, the real question is, how do you know if part of the money belongs to you?

3 easy ways to check & claim

The government has provided three ways to check for unclaimed money (Wang Tak Dituntut, WTD) and claim it hassle-free:

1. Online via eGUMIS

Visit eGUMIS website and register an account. Log in, enter your IC number, and check if you have unclaimed funds. If you do, submit an online claim with the required documents.

    2. In-person at the Accountant General’s Department (Jabatan Akauntan Negara) counters

Just bring your MyKad to any state office counter and find out in minutes if you have unclaimed money.
