Protest Against Injustice

NUBE Secretary J Solomon stated that the protest, held in front of the local bank at Ipoh, was aimed at drawing public attention to the plight of the 38-year-old victim and demanding swift and fair action from the bank’s top management.

According to a report by Harian Metro, the incident dates back to October 2021, when the victim filed an official complaint with the bank.

She reported that her male supervisor had been sending sexually inappropriate messages via WhatsApp.

Despite her requests for the supervisor to stop, the harassment continued, with the supervisor allegedly going as far as berating her in front of customers.

This month, NUBE brought the ongoing harassment to light, but instead of taking immediate action against the perpetrator, the bank reportedly contacted the victim to initiate a new investigation.

On August 20, the victim refused to participate in the bank’s investigation, insisting that the matter be resolved at the national level.

In response, the bank suspended her, a move seen as unjustly punishing the victim.

Victim Lodged a Police Report

Solomon revealed that the victim recently lodged a police report to ensure her safety.

Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, confirmed that the police had received the report and are investigating the case under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.
