M’sians Cannot Apply For Extra BUDI95 Petrol, 200L Quota To Remain

The 200L BUDI95 cap stays put.
If you were hoping to increase your monthly BUDI95 petrol quota above 200 litres, here’s the bad news: you can’t.

The Finance Ministry has officially denied claims that Malaysians can apply for higher personal subsidised RON95 petrol limit under the BUDI95 scheme, calling such claims false and unfounded.

Portal feature was “misunderstood” by public

According to the ministry, the application function previously available on the BUDI95 portal was never meant for general users to request for extra quota.

Instead, it was introduced only for specific cases with verified operational needs, such as:

  • E-hailing drivers
  • Boat operators
  • Other approved users under strict eligibility criteria

However, the ministry said many had misunderstood the feature as an open channel to request higher subsidy limits.

The additional application function in the BUDI95 portal has been misinterpreted as a channel for unrestricted requests to increase subsidy limits.”

Following the confusion, the application button has since been deactivated from the portal.

200-litre monthly quota remains unchanged

The ministry reiterated that the 200-litre monthly BUDI95 quota remains in place, with no plans announced to raise it.

It said the quota was designed to ensure subsidies remain targeted and sustainable, while maintaining fuel supply stability.

According to the government, the 200-litre cap is sufficient for around 90% of BUDI95 recipients.

At the subsidised price of RM1.99 per litre, recipients can purchase up to RM398 worth of subsidised RON95 monthly, with the government reportedly absorbing about RM500 in subsidy per beneficiary.

Quota reduction linked to rising global fuel pressures

The ministry said the reduced quota is part of a temporary measure introduced amid ongoing global energy market pressures, which have pushed subsidy costs higher.

Among the contributing factors is the continued conflict in the Middle East, which has disrupted global fuel supply chains and driven up prices.

For context, subsidised RON95 quota was reduced from 300 litres to 200 litres per month effective April 1, while maintaining the subsidised fuel price at RM1.99 per litre.

The Finance Ministry said it will continue monitoring global energy trends and make adjustments when necessary.

Additional note: WeirdKaya sincerely apologises for the previous coverage regarding additional RON95 quota being made available. We deeply regret the inaccuracies.
