M’sians Can Refuel RM1.99 RON95 Petrol Daily, But It Will Be Capped At 300 Litres Monthly

Updated.
The Finance Ministry (MOF) has released an official statement aimed at clearing the air regarding the number of times one can utilise RM1.99 RON95 petrol starting Sept 30.

This comes after the public expressed concern over Finance Minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan’s proposal to monitor fuel usage daily to prevent abuse.

Can pump daily, but capped at 300 litres

According to the statement, the government has clarified that there is no daily limit for buying subsidised RON95 petrol. However, a 300-litre monthly cap remains in place.

This means that Malaysians can refuel more than once a day as long as they don’t exceed the 300-litre monthly quota.

However, the announcement was met with opposition from Malaysians, who said its “one size fits all” approach doesn’t accurately reflect the different needs of people.

Some also pointed out it will lead to long queues at petrol stations and open doors to loopholes that may be abused by certain parties.

The move was also criticised by Muda, where it labelled the Budi95 scheme a “failure” in fulfilling the government’s promise of targeted fuel subsidies.

According to MalaysiaKini, Muda’s information chief Leben Siddarth said the initial plan was to use the Central Database Hub (PADU) to ensure that only lower- and middle-income groups received the help.

However, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim seemed to U-turn on it, stating that anyone with a valid driving licence can enjoy 300 litres of subsidised RON95 petrol each month regardless of income level.

Muda also argued that the Budi95 scheme is now slated to save only RM4 billion per year — a 50% decrease from its original target.
