M’sians Allegedly Resell Items Bought Using Sara Funds For Cash

Cash is king?
Some Malaysians are turning their RM100 Sara groceries into quick cash instead of using them for food, sparking concern among consumer groups.

The Kedah Consumer Association (Cake) revealed that certain individuals have been caught reselling essential goods they bought using the RM100 Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) credit, just to get cash in return.

Singles reportedly doing it for fuel, phone credit

Its president, Mohd. Yusrizal Yusoff told Kosmo! that these cases mostly involved single individuals who didn’t really need the groceries.

Traders informed us that some people used the RM100 Sara credit to buy items, then resold them for cash,” he said.

“Most of them are single, with no dependents. Maybe they needed money for fuel or to top up their phones. That’s why we got complaints about this.”

The complaint reportedly came from the Kota Setar area.

Cash over groceries?

Yusrizal said this shows that some people still prefer cash over essential goods, despite the assistance being meant for daily necessities.

Adding to the frustration, some recipients also complained about system glitches, which forced them to make multiple trips to the supermarket to redeem their items.
