A Malaysian woman recently took to Threads to expose what she described as a toxic workplace environment at the F&B outlet she worked at, sharing screenshots of conversations allegedly involving her supervisor.

The posts quickly went viral, with one of them receiving over 18,000 likes and more than 1,000 comments, as netizens weighed in on the situation.

Says she was pressured to resign

In one of the screenshots shared, the woman claimed she was told to resign from her job, but said that if she did so, she would state that she was forced to resign by her supervisor and manager.

She also alleged that employees were often required to work overtime without pay and sometimes had to manage the outlet alone from morning until evening during peak hours.

“OT not paid, work alone,” she wrote in one message.

Supervisor allegedly spoke harshly to staff

The woman also posted screenshots of messages that appeared to show her supervisor speaking to her in a harsh tone.

In one message, the supervisor allegedly told her not to leave the outlet until another staff member arrived, even though her shift had already ended at 5:30pm.

When she questioned the request, the supervisor reportedly replied that they could delete her recorded working hours, prompting her to warn that she might report the issue to HR.

The woman said she would have been willing to help if the request had been made politely.

“If you had spoken nicely from the beginning, I could have accepted waiting for 10 minutes,” she replied.

Claims toxic environment had been ongoing

In another post, the woman claimed that the toxic workplace culture had been ongoing for a long time, alleging that staff were frequently scolded harshly and pressured at work.

She also claimed that some employees who had disciplinary issues were not dismissed, while others were allegedly pressured to resign.

“It’s extremely toxic,” she wrote.

Netizens share their thoughts

The posts sparked discussions online, with some netizens expressing sympathy for the worker and sharing their own experiences working in the F&B industry, where understaffing and unpaid overtime are common complaints.

Others advised the woman to report the matter to the Human Resources department or the Labour Department if the allegations were true.

At the time of writing, the company mentioned in the posts has not issued any public response.
