Cancer is debilitating disease that chips away at one’s physical and mental strength as it requires one to undergo lengthy treatments that leave painful aftereffects.
A woman diagnosed with late-stage cancer refused to let her sickness prevent her from funding her own treatment by making baked goods, and her tenacity was praised by philanthropist Kuan Chee Heng, better known as Uncle Kentang.
Baked cookies to pay for treatment
In a Facebook post by Kuan, he wrote the woman didn’t have enough money for her stage 4 cancer treatment at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, leading him to donate her RM900.

He added the woman has a six-year-old son and that her husband earns a meagre income as an assistant kitchen helper.
However, the woman refused to be discouraged by her circumstances and took it upon herself to make cookies in order to fund her cancer treatment.
“She used to push her trolley laden with cakes which she baked herself to sell, but she no longer does so as she doesn’t have the strength. She now resorts to baking cookies, which is much lighter,” wrote Kuan.

Kuan also said that the woman takes a painstaking 45 minutes to climb three flights of stairs to her home due to her weakened condition caused by chemotherapy.
But, the woman continues to maintain a positive mindset and expressed hope in her future recovery.
She told me that one day she will be able to overcome her cancer and looks forward to the day she can push the little red trolley again to sell cakes.”

Kuan ended the post by wishing the woman a speedy recovery and said he’s hopeful that she will return to her healthy self soon.
