M’sian Woman With RM7k Salary Says Parents Keep Pushing Her To Move To S’pore For Work

Her parents keep comparing her to cousins who’ve settled in Singapore.
Can you be happy, yet still not be seen as “successful” in your parents’ eyes?

A 28-year-old Malaysian woman recently shared her heartfelt experience in an anonymous confession posted by Facebook page XUAN Play.

She revealed that despite earning a monthly salary of RM7,000, being single, and living a comfortable life on her own terms, her parents still think it’s not good enough.

According to her, her parents constantly encourage her to move to Singapore, highlighting better job opportunities and higher salaries, while comparing her to relatives who’ve already “settled down” there.

She knows they mean well and want her to have a more secure future, but she has no plans to leave.

She loves her current city, the familiar routine, and the freedom she’s built for herself.

Conversations about money always turn tense

The woman shared that things often get tense at home whenever the topic of money comes up. Her parents worry about her future and question her decisions.

They think I’m being stubborn, but I feel like I’m just standing by my choice.”

To avoid constant lectures, she’s started going home less, knowing the same questions will come up again and again, like “When are you going to Singapore?”

The more they say, the quieter I get. And the sadder I feel.”

While her parents often say it’s all “for her own good,” she wishes they could see that she’s not avoiding responsibility, just choosing a different path.

I work hard, save money, live steadily. I’m not wasting my life… I just don’t earn a lot , that’s all.”

She ended her post by wondering if, in their eyes, success only means “earning more and going further.”

As the only daughter in the family, she admitted she didn’t know who else to talk to, so she decided to let it out online and hear what others thought.
